Joint Anatomy

The Shoulder Joint

The shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint that offers the maximum range of motion of any joint in the body. To achieve this extreme reach, the joint features a small, flat cup (glenoid socket) and a large ball (humeral head). However, this design makes it inherently unstable and dependent on surrounding ligaments, capsule, and muscles for stability.
